The University of Alberta has offered undergraduate courses in Construction
Engineering and Management since 1986 and graduate degrees since 1991. This
exciting division of the Department of Civil and Environmental
Engineering at the University
of Alberta has always worked to meld the best of the academe with that of
the construction industry, pushing both research and industry to their fullest
potential. This is why the Hole School of Construction Engineering (HSCE)
is so proud to host the NSERC Industrial Research Chair in Construction Engineering and Management,
the Canada Research Chair in Operation Simulation,
and the Steacie Fellowship all held by Dr.
S.M. AbouRizk. While the research Chairs and the Fellowship clearly promote
research and the relationship between research and industry, they also create
unique opportunities for students to be actively involved in groundbreaking
research and, importantly, industry-related research. This not only fosters
learning, but also gives the students skill sets and contacts that will last
a lifetime.
By the Numbers
Since 1997, the HSCE and the IRC program have greatly emphasized the connection between high level research activity and tangible outputs at the core of our work. We have brought to maturity over four major research and development projects that have produced new, award-winning theories and techniques, strengthened collaborations with a consortium of construction companies, and trained a valuable pool of highly qualified personnel. We are proud of the growing size and reach of our program, including:
